TWU is not only one of the largest universities located in Denton, Texas but also has the largest nursing programs in United Sates.

TWU nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education in the largest women’s university.

It seeks to empower and give their students support as they accept students from diverse populations, to address Texas people’s healthcare issues.

TWU nursing school offers multi-campus settings and award degrees at graduate, masters and doctoral levels. Additionally, it prepares its student for leadership roles and offering professional services to their patients based on a solid liberal education.

TWU Nursing Programs: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BS)

This is a four-year curriculum with a major in nursing.

Its academic and clinical programs provide students with a foundation of knowledge and a lot of experience in the clinical field.

Its graduates are known to exceed with average pass rates in the state and national level, and passing the licensure examination on the first attempt.

The first two years of the four-year bachelor program in TWU nursing school consist of non-nursing prerequisites, which is taught at the Denton campus, and is very essential in the nursing course. While the last 2 year courses are taught in TWU Dallas or TWU Houston.

A student applies for the upper-division course program after completing 48 hours of nursing prerequisite, which must comprise of the following:

  • Anatomy and physiology 1 & 2 (C grade and above)
  • Chemistry (C grade and above)
  • Developmental psychology (lifespan)
  • Microbiology (C grade and above)
  • Elementary statistics 1

TWU College of nursing requires the nursing student to have completed a two- semester sequence of human anatomy and physiology; the version that is offered to majors in science. Therefore, if a nursing student claims to have covered the course in one semester that is not accepted, it is considered that they have not met the requirement.

  • TEAS V (Test of Essential Academic Skills) score of 64% or higher in all sections. This test measures basic essential skills in academic content like English and language usage, mathematics, science, and reading. It is the entrance exam for the college of nursing.
  • Prerequisite GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Earning 32 hours of prerequisite courses from TWU prior to application deadline is an added advantage.
  • Most important to note is that the course is highly competitive thus the higher you achieve beyond the minimal cut scores, the greater your chances.

TWU Nursing Program for Registered Nurses with Associate Degree/ Diploma only (RN-BS)

It is popularly known as the online RN-BS.

The RN-BS is fully online.

It is aimed at ensuring educational mobility for the RNs who are interested in earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Important to note is that, NURS 4614 & NURS 4823 courses comprise a non-traditional component that is accomplished by doing class projects and a clinical evidence-based capstone in collaboration with a preceptor together.

Within one year of full-time study, the registered nurse can be in a position to complete the upper division courses. However, most of the students choose to do it on a part-time basis.

Here are the requirements for RN-BS admission:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.0
  • A current US practicing license.
  • Completed majority of the nursing core requirements at a Texas university or college or, have a prior bachelor’s degree course.
  • All prerequisite must be completed in order to progress beyond nursing 3643, nursing 3614 and nursing 3612.
  • Completed multicultural women’s studies (3hrs) before graduation.

The student may take the following prerequisite courses with the first-level nursing courses:

  • Philosophy core core/approved sophomore literature.
  • Visual/performing arts.
  • An elective.
  • Math/wellness core option.

TWU Nursing Degrees

The Texas Women University (TWU) nursing Houston center offers doctoral, bachelor and master’s degrees. The doctoral program is designed for nurses who have developed an expertise in a special clinical field. The bachelor’s degree helps the nurses to prepare to professionally practice nursing. The master’s degree, on the other hand, is designed to prepare professional nurses to take up leadership roles and positions in the promotion of health and delivery of healthcare.

They offer the following programs:

  1. Bachelor of Science (BS) — is by large basic nursing education. Discussed in length above.
  2. RN-BS — meant for diploma nurses interested in a Bachelor of Science degree.
  3. RN-MS — offers registered nurses with a diploma or degree from an accredited nursing program to register to a Master’s of Science (MS) in nursing in TWU nursing school. Depending on the master’s specialty, the degree in masters can be completed in additional 3-6 semesters on a full-time basis. Students who already hold a bachelor’s degree are not accepted in this program, but can apply to one of TWU nursing traditional Masters of Science programs.
  4. Postgraduate RN-MS program.

The Dallas TWU nursing program aims at innovative teaching methods to improve student learning. It offers the following programs.

  1. Bachelor of Science (BS) – it is also basic nursing education. Discussed in length above.
  2. RN-BS — meant for diploma nurses interested in a Bachelor of Science degree.
  3. RN-MS
  • Postgraduate RN-MS program.
  • Nursing practitioner MS — either a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP), and Paediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP).
  • Nursing education MS — 100% online
